Jacob Flachséen, 1 January 1804

Coffer captain jacob flachséen (born in länder 1731 - died 1804) wearing a black coat with brass buttons and a dark waistcoat and white neckerchief, in the background a sea view with ships. He was the sea captain of a cofferdi ship (a non-government owned merchant ship). According to the inscription on the spandrel painted posthumously in 1804, "efter döden år 1804 fred. V breda", but according to emil hultmark it is more likely that the portrait was made by students in carl fredrik von breda's studio. Oil on canvas mounted on masonite, 71. 5 x 62 cm provenance murbeck foundation, stockholm. Literature emil hultmark, carl fredrik von breda, stockholm 1915, mentioned in the list of works on page 190, as numbers 407 and 408. From documents regarding s j flachséen's deed of gift and grave in 1836, testament in 1842, the following is recorded; "to murbeck's institution for the education of poor girls, i give. . Two portraits of my beloved parents and one of my late brother, which three portraits are painted by the professor and knight c. F. Von breda. " according to the deed of gift, samuel jacob flachséen donates money to the murbeckska stiftelsen, as well as the portraits of his parents eva maria and jacob flachséen and the portrait of his younger deceased brother (catalog no. 327). According to the list of works compiled by emil hultmark, these portraits are number 407 and 408. Date: 1 January 1804.
