The famous painting "the dressed maja" by francisco de goya, photographed in the sun, at the royal academy of fine arts of san fernando, madrid, in the 19th century. The photographer laurent (juan laurent minier, or jean laurent) had to photograph this painting outside, on an easel, with direct sunlight. Starting in 1865, laurent photographed many original paintings outside museums, as natural light was insufficient inside. Between the years 1865 and 1879, juan laurent photographed all kinds of paintings, in direct sunlight, especially outside the prado museum, and in a courtyard of the museo de la trinidad (on atocha street, madrid). On the other hand, laurent could not photograph the famous black paintings of the quinta de goya (or quinta del sordo) in direct sunlight because they were wall paintings. In that case, in 1874, laurent had to use electric lighting, since he already had powerful portable equipment to provide electric light. And his photographs of the 14 black paintings present a strange lighting, with a great glow. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: 1868. Place of creation: Spain.
