Exemplary plates - The Judgment of Cambydes, Lucas Cranach the Elder

It depicts the story of the judge sisamnes, who was flayed for corruption. His son otanes was then appointed as judge and had to dispense justice from a throne under his father's skin. Cranach's painting contains the flaying of sisamnes in a kind of simultaneous representation in the top right corner. Date: between circa 1540 and circa 1545.
