Capt kelly smith a c 130j pilot for the 146th airlift wing participated in a panel with the first lady michelle obama to discuss how hollywood can tell the stories of military families in their productions. The event was held 13 june 2011 at the writers guild theater in beverly hills. The first lady asked the writers, producers and actors who attended to "move america to think differently about these families and our men and women who serve so graciously. " others on the panel included producer and director jj abrams, sgt first class robert jarman, ret, and ms anita brigman moore wife of marine staff sgt moore who is currently deployed.
