"the painting is ascribed to the manner of charles dauphin, an artist active in turin from 1655 to 1677 and, from 1658, invested with the role of painter of emanuele filiberto di savoia carignano. The depicted prince was born in 1628 and died in 1709. The painting is mentioned for the first time in the 1716 inventory in the summer dining room (see antechamber): "n. 476 two large portrait paintings, one of m. R.
