Nasledie-rus. Ru/podshivka/6804. Php not all portraits where the authorship was attributed to p. F. Sokolov could be identified as their true author. Professionals and amateurs copied his watercolors, imitated him, and worked in his manner. For example, the portrait of s. A. Bobrinskaya, repeatedly published as sokolov's work, differs sharply in its writing techniques from his known works. The thin, brittle yellow paper also raised doubts, so unlike the slightly rough texture of whatman paper or the smooth, slightly velvety bristol cardboard that the artist usually used. The reproduction of this portrait in a. N. Veselovsky's book "v. A. Zhukovsky. Poetry of feeling and heartfelt imagination" confirmed the initial guess. The note stated that the portrait was "a copy made in january 1892 from the original, written, as they say, by sokolov in 1822. " in addition, a chemical reaction of the paper to aniline sulfate showed that it was not of rag, but of wood origin. Watercolor on such paper could only have been painted in the second half of the 19th century. The signed original by p. F. Sokolov was in an album that belonged to count grigory alexandrovich stroganov, then to his daughter elena grigoryevna, sheremeteva by first marriage, and later to his granddaughter sofia vladimirovna sheremeteva, née von den. After the revolution, having emigrated to rome, she managed to take the family heirloom with her. In the 1930s, the album was sold in paris in separate sheets, some of which were acquired by a. A. Popov, whose collection was inherited by the owner of the popov and co gallery, collector maurice boryush. The copy, made in 1892, remained in russia. Its last owner, count alexander andreevich bobrinsky, great-grandson of s. A. And a. A. Bobrinsky, a guards officer, was shot in 1919 in the caucasus. He left no descendants, and the watercolor ended up in other hands, having lost its main value as a family heirloom. Date: 1827.
