The canvas represents a historical event, from which the legend of the commanders of córdoba would later derive, which occurred in the city of córdoba in 1448, during the reign of john ii of castile. The authentic historical facts, independently of the later legend, indicate that the protagonist of the legend, fernando alfonso de córdoba, knight twenty-four of the city of córdoba, murdered his wife, beatriz de hinestrosa, and jorge de córdoba y solier, commander of cabeza del buey, who had seduced her. He also murdered fernando alfonso de córdoba y solier, brother of the previous one and commander of moral, both brothers being knights and commanders of the order of calatrava and cousins of the murderer. Notwithstanding the above, the legend indicates, without any basis, that fernando alfonso de córdoba killed his wife, believing her to be an adulteress without any basis, so, repentant, he asked for forgiveness from king juan ii, who according to the legend ordered him to build a tower in córdoba as atonement for his crime, since then said tower has been called la mal-muerta. However, the malmuerta tower was actually built between 1404 and 1408, during the reign of henry iii of castile. Object Type: painting. Date: 1872. Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Diputación Provincial de Córdoba. Leyenda de la torre de la Malmuerta (Diputación de Córdoba)
