Catalan volunteers embark to cuba in 1869. Ten years' war. The war began with the grito de yara, on the night of october 9 to 10, 1868, on the la demajagua farm, in manzanillo, which belonged to carlos manuel de céspedes. It ended ten years later with the peace of zanjón or pact of zanjón, which established the capitulation of the cuban independence army against the spanish troops. This agreement did not guarantee any of the two fundamental objectives of said war: the independence of cuba and the abolition of slavery.
