Emilias kilde. In the park of sølyst north of copenhagen, count ernst schimmelmann had a fountain built in 1780 based on a design by nicolai abildgaard, which also served as a memorial to his first wife emilia, née countess von rantzau, who died young in 1780. Friedrich's print with the view of the monument was created on may 15, 1797 as the first in a series of fountain depictions from the copenhagen area (cf. Cat. 1916-146).
