Ivan Enchev-Vidyu Bulgarian Folk Crosses 143, 19 July 1916

143. "petrovski krust" vow site outside the city of teteven, in the middle of a beautiful area, surrounded by tall trees. "peter's cross" has been erected since time immemorial. Here, in times of drought, the population comes out to pray for rain; on st. Peter's day, they make a prayer, and on other holidays, many believers come here, light candles for health and decorate it with flowers. The monument is roughly hewn from ash limestone; its upper end is semi-circular, and the lower end is paved with stones in the ground. On its face is carved the cross with outwardly expanding wings - shorter, and the other two longer; below the waist, a square niche, for candles. Dimensions: 140x50x15 cm. Sketched on 19 vp. 1916.
