Église de la Sainte-Famille de l'île d'Orléans 014, François Baillairgé

The sainte-famille church on île d'orléans is a catholic church built in 1747. It was listed as a historic monument in 1980. Sainte-famille was founded in 1661. A first 26 m long stone church was built there in 1669, approximately 90 m north of the current location. Significant deterioration of the building led to the construction of a new church starting in 1743. Work continued until 1747, but the bell towers, on the towers that were then simply covered with a roof, were added in 1807. The original central bell tower, built on the ridge of the roof, was demolished in 1823 after being struck by lightning. The architect thomas baillairgé drew up the plans for the new bell tower built in 1843.
