The annunciation is located inside the holy chapel of bourges. The angel gabriel is kneeling in front of the virgin who listens to him, in meditation, while the dove of the holy spirit hovers above her. Mary is seated on the ground on a carpet between two books, one closed, the other open, symbols respectively of the old and new testaments. Fouquet has inscribed them in the vanishing lines which all converge towards the statue of moses holding the tablets of the law, behind the altar, surmounted by an enormous reliquary.
