The shahnameh or ‘book of kings’ in ink, opaque watercolor and gold on paper, depicts faridun in the guise of a dragon testing his sons. This is an illumination from the shah tahmasp shahnameh that was completed at the royal safavid atelier circa 1525-1535. Object Type: manuscript illumination, folio. Date: between circa 1525 and circa 1535. Place of creation: Tabriz. Dimensions: height: 47.2 cm (18.5 in) ; width: 32 cm (12.5 in). Medium: gold, gouache paint, ink and paper.
