period frame. The painting comes from the collection of the princes czartoryski family. The duchess was the mother of tsarina catherine ii. She was born in 1711. She married prince christian augustus in brunswick in 1727. She lived in the greifenhagen district of szczecin, in von aschersleben's house, near st. Mary's church. It was here that sophia augusta frederick, the future tsarina of russia, was born in 1729. When the prince became the governor of szczecin and commandant of the fortress, the family moved to the "globus" palace and then to the former piast castle. The duchess, being a cousin of charles frederick, duke of holstein, who was married to anne, sister of tsarina elizabeth, had the ambition to marry her daughter to their son, the heir to the russian throne, charles peter. In 1744, joanna and her daughter, who later became tsarina, visited the court of tsarina elizabeth. They both received an honorable decoration from her, the order of st. Catherine. The duchess was widowed in 1747. She lived beyond her means, regardless of financial problems, and died in 1760 in paris. She left behind debts that had to be settled by the russian court. The portrait is probably a posthumous image of the duchess. Anna rosina lisiewska matthieu de gasc, daughter of the painter jerzy (georg) lisiewski (1674 - 1750), sister of the painter christian friedrich reinholdt (1725 - 1794) and the painters anna dorotea (1721 - 1782) and julia (1723 - 1794). She was the wife of the painter david matthieu (when he was widowed by her sister) and the mother of two painters, rosina christiana matthieu (1744 or 1748 - 1795) and henryk frederick leopold matthieu (1750 - 1778), and the guardian of her sister's son, dorotea eliza, and her husband, george david matthieu ((1737) – 1778), also a painter. She studied painting with her father. While in szczecin with her father, she painted a portrait of princess anhalt-zerbst from 1740. There are three portraits of sophia augusta of anhalt-zerbst, the future tsarina of catherine ii, from 1740 (one of them is in the collection of the academy of arts in st. Petersburg). She was published in 1755. Brunswick. They gave her the title of court painter. In 1766, she returned to berlin. Then she moved to the netherlands, where, among other things, she painted the von suassé family portrait in 1767 (in the collection in the hague). In 1769 she became a member of the academy of arts in dresden. Her main work was portrait painting. She also created historical and allegorical compositions. She used primarily oil techniques, sometimes painting with pastels. She was considered a master in reproducing matter, delicate laces and fleshy fabrics, which became an important element of representative portraits. According to her painted portraits, artists made engravings, including j. Haid, h. E. Gerike, d. Chodowiecki. The literature on lisiewska's work includes many items, especially in german. Among polish authors, e. Rastawiecki devoted more attention to her and her family in his three-volume dictionary of painters. The painter's works are mainly in german museum collections, including a portrait of the abbot of jerusalem, a portrait of the painter's family (1758), a self-portrait, and a portrait of count von dohn, commander of the order of st. John, count von wartensleben (1763), duchess charlotte philippina of brunswick (1768), prince ferdinand of brunswick (1768), duchess of orange (1768), duchess of ganderschiem (1773), portrait of mrs.
