Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1941-07-12) letter no. 24 (1941-07-23) next letter (1941-07-26) envelope: front back text russia, july 23, 1941 dear parents, i send you my warmest greetings from far away. I so rarely get the chance to write to you! we are advancing and we don't even have time to sleep. We are now far into russia. Yesterday we crossed the beresina. Conditions here are terrible. This is the famous workers' paradise! the people are all dirty, lousy and starving. The streets, the dirt and the heat are giving us all sorts of problems. But we will overcome that too. Today we have a bit of peace and quiet. How are you now? is everything ok? thank you for the letters, cards and the two packages! please send me some field postcards. There aren't any here. Otherwise i can't write. I often have to think of home - how beautiful it is at home compared to [here. ]. Date: 23 July 1941.
