O'connell stands by temple bar, with his stick held across his left shoulder; he looks over his right shoulder to say, with a knowing smile, 'is a calf's head or an alderman's the thickest'. Facing him, approaching the arch (right), is a ragged and dilapidated placard-bearer, whose placard (on a pole) is inscribed 'the address to aldn thompson requesting him to serve the office of chief magistrait lies' [the last words being torn from the bill]. A turtle walks towards o'connell from the left, saying, 'i pray thee remember the 9th of november' (i. E. The lord mayor's day dinner). Behind it is a large house inscribed 'farebrother auctioner' [sic]; farebrother in his alderman's gown looks from the balcony to shout 'wilson fetch me my hammer'. Oct 24 1831
