iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "porte st. Denis", arch, water tower. Characters: a fruit seller converses with a water carrier. He wears a large hat, a barrel under one arm and a bucket in the other hand. A mastiff, with a collar fitted with spikes, stands near the man. Two children look at the fruit basket. A woman appears to be sitting against a stone pillar. On the left we notice two men and a woman, behind a chestnut roaster and a cart loaded with an enormous barrel and its driver: a water seller. Inscriptions appear on the barrel: “n°67”. Two men mounted on the roof of the water tower hold pipes. A man downstairs grabs a pipe. The monument has a semicircular arch with a coffered vault and a sculpted decoration of weapon trophies at the base and on the sides, as well as a lion lying in the round.
