Head of Christ, after Van Eyck (Royal Collection), Jan van Eyck

A painting of the head of christ or vera icon ("true image"), thought to be a copy after a lost painting by the netherlandish master jan van eyck. The original was painted in 1438 or 1440. This copy (oil on panel, 35. 0 x 23. 5 cm) probably dates from 1475-1500. Purchased by prince albert with the oettingen-wallerstein collection in 1847 and since then part of the royal collection (united kingdom). Object Type: painting.
