Portrait of the spanish politician and writer josé echegaray y eizaguirre (1832-1916), who was also an engineer, playwright, politician and mathematician and brother of the comedian miguel echegaray. Furthermore, josé echegaray was a civil engineer and economist, and was minister of development between 1869 and 1872 and then minister of finance between 1872-1873 and 1874, highlighting among his actions the founding of the national bank of spain. In 1876 he retired from politics, although he was again appointed minister of finance in 1905. In 1904 he was awarded the nobel prize for literature, which he shared with federico mistral, and in 1911 king alfonso xiii awarded him the golden fleece. Object Type: painting. Date: 1881.
