Dulcele nóstre speranțe, Ghimpele, 3 iun 1873, 3 June 1873

Cartoon in the romanian liberal magazine ghimpele, mocking rival journalist cezar bolliac and commenting on the recent death of wallachian prince gheorghe bibescu. Bolliac is depicted as a professional mourner of prince cuza, himself dead in may 1873. Bibescu, with the large kalpak of a high-ranking boyar, approaches bolliac with moneybags, asking for his services. Cuza's grave is identified with ruginoasa (its actual location) and the word unirea ("union", in reference to cuza being the first elected ruler of both wallachia and moldavia). Bibescu's would-be grave is marked père lachaise and carries the name trandafiroff, alluding to a controversial russian investor in wallachian mines, whom bibescu had protected; additional hints to bibescu's russophile past include the crossed knouts and kubanka hat topping the monument. Date: 3 June 1873.
