Satire on lord bute's anxiety following derogatory articles in the monitor and the north briton, and on his alleged relationship with the princess of wales. Bute is shown starting up in alarm from a curtained bed, the two newspapers on a table beside it, at the sight of ghosts of former royal favourites warning him to avoid their fates; a speech balloon emerging from behind the curtains records the voice of princess augusta, "fly, sawney, to the middle of wallachia & in its blissful vales forget your fears". The ghosts are lettered according to a key below: a. "roger mortimer, earl of march, favourite & suppos'd minion of the queen-mother, in the reign of edward iii"; b. "william des roches, bishop of winchester, favourite of henry iii and during the minority of that prince, protector of the realm"; c. "hubert de burg, favourite of the same monarch, and successor to wm. Des roches after his disgrace. "; d. "simon montfort, e. Of leicester, favourite of the same monch. Afterwards married to the countess of pembroke the king's sister, who had been previously debauch'd by him. The parlt.
