Historical commentary: the station was located between rue de lyon and rue de charenton, at place de la bastille. It was inaugurated on september 22, 1859 in the presence of napoleon iii and operated until 1969. The station then served as a place of artistic exhibition until its destruction in 1984, when the opéra bastille was built on its site.
