The west façade of the former jesuit church in maastricht, the netherlands. Watercolour by alexander schaepkens, 1857. The church had been severely altered in the late-18th century to accommodate a theatre inside. The east section with the choir had been replaced by a new entrance designed by matthias soiron. The west façade remained largely unaltered (only the windows had been partly filled in). In the 1870s, and even more so in the 1950s, the baroque façade was replaced by a rectangular one.
