Iconographic description: quai de l’horloge et des orfèvres, square du vert-galant, places du pont-neuf and dauphine; seen from the quai du louvre, 1st arrondissements. Palais de la cité, between the meuniers and saint-michel bridges. Facade of the gothic houses and buildings of the saint-louis palace, the king's gardens, montgomery tower, grand'salle, conciergerie prison (argent, bombec and césar towers). Bridge covered with medieval houses. Banks, river activity, monnaie water mill on stilts (gourdaine), seine, marnese boat, boats, transport and depots of goods. Historical commentary: cf. Hoffbauer and a. Bonnardot, paris through the ages, paris, 1875-1882, 7th delivery, texts by e. Fournier, lithograph by p. Benoist, pl. I (reed. Tchou, paris, 1982, t. 1, p. 7-82). The “room on the water” will house the court of cassation and the conciergerie, the 1st chamber of the civil court; the bridge collapsed in 1596. To be compared with card07912 (1665): the tip of the island lost its islands, the quai de l'horloge was formed, with the place du pont-neuf and dauphine. On the evolution of the bridge during the second empire, the samaritaine baths, see card005820, a view of pont-neuf from 1840 with the shops designed by the architect soufflot removed in 1851-54, then card05826 (1881).
