In a week's time i'll be lying in a nice white bed and enjoying myself. My buddies here are very jealous of me because the time when they'll be sent to the front is getting closer and closer. Don't worry about it, you know, a break like this is a small thing these days. In any case, it's time gained at home. Unfortunately, i now have to say goodbye to people who i grew very fond of during that time. I became particularly fond of my friend herbert. That's just how it is in the army, you get to know so many people and then have to say goodbye again. Date: 5 June 1944.
