In the 1970s, a statue was erected for coen in batavia, designed by lacomblé. When hoorn also wanted to erect a statue for her famous fellow citizen in the 1990s, lacomblé competed for the commission. This time, however, the design by f. Leenhoff (1841-1914) was chosen.
