The Niagara Falls seen from the ferry to Canada., Ferdinand Richardt, 1865

Richardt had been in the united states in 1855-59 and in 1873 he emigrated permanently. He made several paintings of the niagara falls, including a smaller version of this one. (see "other versions"). The smaller version shows a larger part of the falls to the left, and perhaps this one does too, because the dimensions of the photo do not match up with the dimensions of the actual painting.
