The Dutch Ambassador on his Way to Isfahan, Jan Baptist Weenix, 1653–1659
In 1651–1652 the ambassador joan cunaeus and his secretary cornelis speelman traveled to isfahan in persia to stimulate the trade in horses and silk. Speelman described the journey, the lavish receptions and visits to sites from classical antiquity. Both gentlemen are depicted as being probably accompanied by the governor of bandar abbas.
