historical commentary:
the saint-victor fountain erected in 1671, probably to the designs of cavalier bernini, was replaced by the cuvier fountain in 1840 (corner of rue linné, rue geoffroy saint-hilaire and rue cuvier, formerly rue saint-victor and rue de seine saint-victor. This fountain was backed by the so-called alexandre turret, demolished in 1889 and which was part of the saint-victor abbey (see rochegude, walks in all the streets of paris by district, vth arrondissement, paris, 1910, p. 112-113)
