Paolo tiepolo (1523-1585) procurator and cavaliere, diplomat and statesman, ambassador to the french court of henry ii, to the spanish court of philip ii and under popes pius iv and v in the vatican. He promoted the holy alliance against the turks, which led to victory in the battle of lepanto in 1571.
