iconographic description:
pl. N°2 of the series “political ashes ceremony”. See pl. N°1 (pl. 248 of number 120) and pl. No. 3 (pl. 251 of number 121). Continuation of the procession in which we can recognize: persil as an executioner, adorned with a large saw-shaped nose whose tip is reddened by blood, wearing a magistrate's headdress, wearing a butcher's apron on which appears the portrait of a man and on which can be read "penalty // of // death // always! // 5000000000000 // fines”. He carries an ax in his right hand (decorated with a pear), while his left hand is soiled with blood. Madier de montjau rides a fake giraffe equipped with two human legs mounted on stilts. The giraffe is covered by a carapaçon decorated with the motif of the pear with a human face (louis-philippe). D’argout in polichinelle comes next, his costume having taken the shape of his large nose at bust level. Then guizot, as an ecclesiastic holding a small open book, fervent defender of the doctrine, "berthe en poissarde", "bey-dok en marlou" (difficult identification of these two characters), then schonen, and the figure of the "constitutionnel", supported by the incarnation of the newspaper "le figaro" which, sharing since 1832 the ideas of the government, now supports its members ("wants to raise them from the mud into which it has dragged them so long” in explanation). Next is viennet reciting tunes from a barrel organ decorated with a pear motif. The pl. Makes fun of his activity as a poet. Person / character represented:
parsley, jean-charles; louis-philippe i, king of the french; schonen, auguste jean marie de, baron; madier de montjau, joseph paulin; viennet, jean pons guillaume; guizot, françois; argout, antoine maurice apollinaire d', baron
