The person in the photo is zygmunt rolecki (rothirsch), commander of the 2nd sword of the 2nd uhlan regiment of the polish legions. Before world war i, he completed construction studies at the vienna university of technology. He belonged to sokół's horse team. In the second polish republic, a cavalry major, he fought in the polish-bolshevik war. He died in warsaw on august 26, 1965. The photo was probably taken in czewel (a village in volhynia near kowel). From march 30 to mid-may 1916, the 2nd uhlan regiment of the polish legions was stationed there. Date: April 1916.
