Triumph of vainglory (gloria mundi, fama); frontispiece to petrarch's de viris illustribus, circa 1380, (bnf ms latin 6069i). The image is thought to be based on a fresco by giotto in the palace of azzone visconti, in milan. This is one of the forerunners of the iconographic tradition illustrating petrarch's triumphs. Date: circa 1380.
