Portrait of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor (1708-1765), Martin van Meytens

Portrait of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor (1708-1765), Martin van Meytens

Due to the emperor's comparatively young appearance, our painting is probably a portrait of franz stephan (1708-1765), which was created shortly after the election of the emperor in 1745. In addition to the crown of the holy roman empire and the imperial orb, the austrian archduke's hat rests on the pillow. However, franz stephan left the government affairs in the habsburg hereditary lands largely to his wife maria theresa. In return, he must have had a remarkable economic talent, which allowed him to amass a considerable fortune. Object Type: painting. Date: 18th century. Dimensions: height: 120.5 cm (47.4 in); width: 94.5 cm (37.2 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unidentified location. Bildnis des Kaisers Franz I. Stephan von Lothringen
