The painting comes from the sacristy of the church of the holy spirit. Not knowing the exact date, it is known that due to the poor conditions in which it was found there, the painting was transferred to the then casa pia masculina in the convent of são bento de cástris, in évora. According to existing correspondence at the évora museum, it is known that in the 1960s the person responsible for this institution requested that the painting be treated at the restoration workshop. As the painting was ready in 1970, and as there were no conditions in são bento de cástris, the general directorate of higher education and fine arts was asked to hand over the painting to the custody of the évora museum.
