The White Rabbit Cabaret: Interior, Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer, between 1875 and 1882
The "lapin blanc" cabaret was created by a gascon wine merchant named mauras. Inspired by a novel of the time by eugéne sue in which fur traders come to the rue aux fèves ("lucky charm street") to seek out a fictional "tapis franc au lapin blanc" (a plain rug made of white rabbit fur), mauras made the "lapin blanc" a real place at which visitors could get drinks and entertainment. Date: between 1875 and 1882. Dimensions: 8.5 x 9.8 cm. Medium: lithograph. Collection: Brown University Library. Le cabaret du Lapin Blanc - intérieur
