in a schoolyard, a supervisor, his hands clasped behind his back holding a flogger, passes between the dissipated students. The supervisor has the face of a turkey. Behind him, a child with the head of a monkey is having fun twisting the straps of his swift. In front of him, two children, one with the head of a squirrel and the other with the head of a frog, are playing leapfrog. A child with a porcine head urinates in a hat. Extract from métamorphoses du jour (published by gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "it is at recess time that we must study these miniature men who call themselves schoolchildren, if we want to realize their tastes, their instincts, their character, i would even say their vocation. [. . . ] if recess is a relaxation for the students, on the other hand it's hard work for the supervisors, for the pawns, as they say in university slang. "
