Amsterdam — Koninklijk Paleis, 1906

The royal palace is located on the outskirts of dam square, the most famous square in amsterdam. The word dam means dike in french. Originally a town hall, built between 1648 and 1665 by the architect jacob van campen, it became a royal palace in 1808, a time when the country was a state under the domination of the french empire (1806-1810).
