Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1936-06-17) letter date (1936-12-29) next letter (1937-05-13) [in the summer, mrs. Waldinger took in a poor motherless orphan] from pflach [a neighboring community of reutte] for a few weeks. The child's mother had just died and the little girl, whom mrs. Waldinger took in, was really a poor girl. We simply had to take hedi [a rare female first name] in for a while in the summer because her father was painting a valuable altarpiece for our little church and, without us knowing anything about it, gave it to my parents for the church. What else could we do but take hedi for a while for a holiday despite my brother's illness! i often thought of you, hansi, how well behaved you were and how you never annoyed me. For this reason, hedi’s parents donated the altarpiece to the church. Date: 29 December 1936.
