iconographic description:
the print represents the quay of the saint-nicolas port opposite the louvre in paris (current quai du louvre). Boats are moored along the bank where a dog walks past a woman and her child. Next to them is a team. Behind the footbridge of the arts which crosses the seine, we can see the ile de la cité with the two towers of notre-dame cathedral. Historical commentary:
raffaëlli is one of the most active protagonists in the revival of the color etching technique at the turn of the century. He draws his pattern with a drypoint then creates a copper plate by color and prints his own proofs, by marking, in very few copies. This view of paris was commissioned and then published by the city of paris in 1911. Themes / subjects / places represented:
