At top is a radiant sun with interlacing l’s, the symbol of louis xvi and a woman deflecting beams of light with a magnifying glass. At center, a woman holds a wreath over a portrait bust of jacques necker. At the base of the plinth is a book entitled compte rendu, and a paper scroll on which is written: eloge de colbert. At bottom, a grotesque and a crowned shield with fleurs-de-lys. Date: 1788–90. Medium: black chalk, gouache, laid paper, pen and ink, sepia wash. Collection: Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
