The old ship of the line Dronning Marie in Copenhagen Harbour., Christian Mølsted, 1923

Based on the auction notes: the danish ship of the line dronning marie was built in 1824 and named up after the danish queen marie (1767–1852), who was married to the danish king frederik 6. Therefore the ship of the line also had a figurehead of queen marie, which was designed by the famous danish painter c. W. Eckersberg. The ship of the line dronning marie was very difficult to navigate and between 1848 and 1850 she was razeed and became a frigate. In 1857 she was converted to a floating barrack for naval servicemen at holmen in copenhagen. Dronning marie was broken up in 1896. The inscription suggests that mølsted saw her (and perhaps made a drawing) in 1886. Object Type: painting. Date: 1923. Dimensions: height: 58 cm (22.8 in); width: 72 cm (28.3 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown. Christian Mølsted - Det gamle Logiskib Dronning Marie i Flaadens Leje - 1923
