Death of Procris killed by an arrow in the chest, Sébastien Leclerc, 1676

In a nature setting, procris falls to the ground in the lower left corner of the composition, an arrow in his chest. In a surge of pain his head falls back and his left arm rises. On the right, in the background, cephalus arrives in amazement; it was he who shot the arrow that just killed his beloved, when he thought he was aiming at game. Date: 1676.
