Gosforth Cross monsters, Magnus Petersen

Gosforth Cross monsters, Magnus Petersen

A part of the gosforth cross, showing some sort of double-monster and a humanoid figure with a spear and a horn. Finnur jónsson interprets the monster as fenrir and tentatively suggests heimdallr for the other figure. The engraving is signed "magnus p. ". Date: This photograph/reproduction published in 1913. The cross itself is medieval (possibly 10th century)..
