After the invasion -- the levée en masse -- or: Britons strike home, Samuel William Fores, 6 August 1803

Satire on the fear of french invasion, 1794-1805. (british political cartoon); an invasion satire imagining the scene '24 hours after landing. ' three volunteers or militiamen hold the head of napoleon on a pitchfork. The hats of the volunteers are decorated with oak leaves and mottoes on ribbons, including 'britons never will be slaves'. In the background english troops repel a landing by french forces and english women rob french corpses, complaining of finding nothing but onions and garlic.;attribution from bmc.
