Painting of a shōjō standing on an over-sized saucer-style sake cup, using a very long-handled sake ladle to pole through a sea of what may be either sake or water. Painting; sumi ink & water colours(?) on paper with (what appear to be) fine flecks of mica. Signed & sealed as by kano tsunenobu (1636-1713); unverified, plausible (research needed!). Painting is loosely "kano school", & (at latest) 19th century or earlier (to accredited artist's lifetime). Private collection; fam. Wittig et cie. Reference shot - scans pending
note to mediawiki maintainers; i was writing a complete description in this box, when i accidentally hit the link to "permission" on the main form, was booted onto that page, hit the back button to return to my work, & found the form was blank, except for the name i'd chosen for the image, which was no longer associated with a file. It would be good if there was a way to prevent data-loss like this! Date: 18?? or earlier (to 1636-1713 period).
