The fresco of the imperial staircase in the frankfurt pömer by the swiss painter giovanni battista innocenzo colombo (1717-1793), the scion of an important italian family of painters, who earned his first spurs on german soil in 1741 at the age of 24 by painting the ceiling of a room above the imperial staircase in the frankfurt römer. It was a work commissioned by emperor charles vii on the theme of the victory of virtue over vice. In 1885, the frankfurt painter karl julius gräb (1843-1912) restored the painting, which had been whitewashed almost 100 years previously, on behalf of the city of frankfurt. This successful, widely appreciated renovation work was destroyed by bombs during the second world war. Date: 1742.
