24th Sultan and 103rd Calip of Islam, Mahmud I (1696–1754)., Jean Baptiste Vanmour

The sultan is portrayed in the open air accompanied by two servants. In the background we see some buildings. This may represent the harem part of the sultan's palace, the topkapı sarayı. Ahmed iii wears a fur-lined kaftan and a turban called a kâtibî. This type of turban was draped around a flat headdress and decorated with a fan-shaped ornament. The sultan's belt is also richly set with jewels, as is the ceremonial staff that he holds in his right hand. Standing, full-length, scepter in the right hand.
