Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-07-08) letter no. 267 (1944-07-29) next letter (1944-08-08) envelope: front back text [unfortunately i had already received the first alarm by then] and had to go into the cellar. Nothing was thrown away; after an hour it was all over. I then traveled on in a “noble” second class seat to halle. From there to halberstadt and from there on to here. So you can see, everything went smoothly. A lot has changed here, though. Almost everything has been sent east; there are only a few men left in the company, all of them strangers. This time it really was a “total” clean-up; now it has finally caught up with some of those who had always avoided going. Unfortunately herbert and everyone else have left too. My mom uncalled, touch wood, we don't know what luck i had this time [that this "examination" happened during my vacation, because if i had been here i would have gotten away with it despite my situation!]. Date: 29 July 1944.
