portrait of the painter and designer louis boulanger slightly three-quarter length and which is part of the very rich collection of portraits of the great writers, artists and musicians of the time taken by the photographer from 1855. Louis boulanger met victor hugo in 1824 through achille devéria, his classmate at the charlemagne high school. He quickly became close to the family, produced numerous portraits of the hugo family and extensively illustrated the poet's work: les orientales (hugo dedicated the poem "mazeppa" to him, notre-dame de paris as well as costume models for his plays, marion de lorme, hernani, lucrèce borgia, angelo tyran de padoue. . .
